Windows 10X onscreen keyboard comes to Windows 10

Windows 10X Keyboard

It begins! Microsoft may be all focused on getting Windows 10X in tiptop shape for launch, but at the same time, the company also has one eye on the evolution of the vanilla Windows 10.

An evolution that is set to see some elements from the now-delayed OS come to the mainline operating system. It is only logical that the features the user base loves the most in Windows 10X make the jump to Windows 10.

And one such features is the shiny new onscreen keyboard.

The latest Windows Insider build hides away the Windows 10X touch keyboard, and it can be activated in just a few steps with the help of a tool.

More on that below, but the keyboard is definitely a modern evolution of the traditional touch keyboard that debuted with Windows 8 and has been in Windows 10 for the last five year — without too many changes or improvements.

This Windows 10X creation, meanwhile, is refreshingly modern. It comes with transparent effect, touches of Fluent Design, and new sounds. Also packed in is a GIF picker, an emoji panel, and fresh animations.

There’s even a shortcut above the keyboard to see the clipboard.

If you want to try this feature out before its official rollout, then you can take it for a test run today, though at your own risk. All you need to do is install ViveTool, open it in PowerShell, and run the following code.

vivetool addconfig 20438551 2

Now, simply restart your PC and enjoy this amazing new touch keyboard.

You do, of course, need to be running Windows 10 build 20185 that is currently available in the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program.

Since the code is already baked into the preview build, it is only a matter of time before it becomes available to everyone with a future release of Windows 10. Hopefully, as the first of many new features that are set to mark their debut with the Windows 10X platform.
